Position on Advanced Nuclear Power R&D _________________ Accelerate the R&D and demonstration of next-generation nuclear energy systems including reprocessing and the use of long- term sustainable fuel cycles. Implement effective licensing reforms to demonstrate that reactors in the U.S. can be built as cost effectively as they are abroad.

Grassroots Goals Recruit 25 grassroots teams of 2-3 volunteers in key congressional districts. Support teams with training as needed and with information to deliver. Identify “grasstops” advocates in key posts or with special relationships with legislators. Conduct 100 plus congressional visits (including Congressional Visits Day) by September 1, 2003. _________________

Key TPA Events Engineering R&D Symposium March 3-4, Washington, DC www.engineeringpolicy.org/R&D/RD.html Cosponsored with five engineering organizations to highlight the federal outlook and priorities for fiscal year 2004. Visits arranged with R&D officials at DOD, DOE, EPA, FAA, NASA, NIH, NSF and 10 Congressional offices. _________________
