Global Warming

What is Global Warming? Global warming is an increase in both land and sea temperatures. Global warming is caused by an increase of CO2 (carbon dioxide) and Greenhouse gases (GHG) in the earth’s atmosphere. Global warming is causing the depletion of our Ozone layer and changes in weather patterns. It is also causing more and more extinctions.

Rise in Average Temperatures Across the Globe Ever since 1860, the average temperature has increased and decreased immensely. However, it has gone so high that it is bringing attention to scientists and meteorologists. They are finding out that even though the temperature is changing, it isn't going back down to where it was in 1860. 2005 is said to have had the warmest average since around the late 1800’s

The Greenhouse Effect and Its Effects on Global Warming For millions of years the greenhouse effect has been keeping our earth insulated with gases in the atmosphere. However in the past 100 years or so, the atmosphere has gained much more of these gases along with CO2(carbon dioxide). This is causing the greenhouse effect to not work properly. It is trapping more heat from the sun than it should, causing global warming.

The Greenhouse Effect cont. The chart to the right shows the different types of gases released every year. Power plants produce the most amount of gas that goes into the atmosphere. Now all of these gases are the reason that the greenhouse effect affects global warming and the depletion of our Ozone layer. Some countries and some car companies are coming out with flex fuel and hybrid cars. This will decrease the amount of pollutants that humans make.

The Climate The last major part of global warming is the way its affecting the climate. The hotter the earth gets, the more the stable weather patterns change and the more unpredicting than every before. It is causing more floods, droughts, heat waves, tornados, and tornados.

So hopefully you have learned something about global warming from these examples and will do something in your future to help prevent the extinction of not just species, but our whole planet.
