Harriet Tubman was born in 1820 in Dorchester County, Maryland. Because she was a slave and owner’s did not record slave birthdays, her exact birth day is not known.

Harriet Tubman worked as a slave in the fields. When she was five years old she was first sent away from the home and was loaned how to another plantation. She was sent back when she became too sick to work. When she was 13, she was hit in the head with a heavy weight.
