ENGLISH 9 DAY 24 Objective: To understand context of To Kill a Mockingbird

TEST As we discuss each question on the test, figure out why you may have missed something. These ideas are the foundation of the school year; you need to understand them in order to be successful later on.

TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD TKM was written in the 1960s but is set in the 1930s. What do you know about each time period? Create a circle map of your knowledge.

Now, look at the picture your group was given. What conclusions can you draw about the environment and time period of the picture? Write your conclusion on a post-it and post it by the picture. Switch groups and complete the same process. Walk around the room, looking at the pictures and conclusions. Add information to your circle maps.

PREDICTIONS Based on your circle maps, what do you think TKM will be about? List your ideas in your frame of reference. Now, answer the following prompt. Summarize what you learned from the photographs about the context of the setting, writing and publication of the novel To Kill a Mockingbird. Be sure to: Begin with a topic sentence summarizing your understanding of the context. Include specific relevant details about images that stood out or informed your understanding. Provide commentary about that you saw and learned.
