Battle of the Reviews Analytical Paragraph: The Great Gatsby critiques

Basic Corrections The Great Gatsby needs to be italicized! AFTER using your author’s full name, refer to your author by his/her LAST NAME If you include the title of the critique you read, you need to place quotes around it Ex: “7 Reasons to Hate The Great” You are NOT to use first person I believe Schulz made a stronger argument…

Let’s talk Structure…Use one of the following structures: Point by point -Intro main idea authors discuss -Author A’s strong/weak argument, example of why strong or weak, analysis of strength or weakness -(transition) Repeat with Author B Subject by subject -Intro main idea authors discuss -Author A’s strong/weak argument, example -(transition)Author B’s strong/weak argument, example -Analysis of why one’s argument is stronger than the other.

Example/Support Choices Quote choices: -If you argue that the author is well researched-use one or more supports that show the author has done research -If you argue the author uses strong/persuasive lang., show that in the quote. -If you argue the author relates well to the general reading public, show that, and explain that because she relates well audiences will side with her.

Grammar and Spelling Capitalize character names Read your paragraph out loud to yourself or have someone else read it to you! No 1 st or 2 nd person
