What is Matter? Matter is the material of which something is made or composed of. All matter is made up of extremely tiny particles. Matter occupies spaces and has mass. Matter includes all solids, liquids and gases. Forms of matter have different characteristics.(words that describe) The characteristics that are used to describe matter are called properties. All matter has its own set of properties making the matter unique.

Properties of Matter The characteristics that are used to describe materials are called properties. For each word assigned to you: 1) Use a dictionary to write a definition that explains the characteristic in terms of matter. Use your own words!! 2) Write a sentence telling about a substance that has that property. 3) Include a picture that would demonstrate the characteristic.

Brittle Definition Rigid but very easily broken. Matter that breaks with a snap rather than bends. Example The stem of a wine glass will snap and break easily; therefore, is brittle.
