Daily Trivia There are more bacteria and microbes in our body than actual cells that make up the body.

DNA Replication
3
I. DNA Replication A.DNA is copied – this is called replication B.Without DNA replication, a new cell would only have half of it’s information. C.All organisms undergo DNA replication
4
DNA Replication D.Because of the complementary pairs - if you have one strand, it is easy to predict the replicated strand. – T-A-G-C-C-G-T E.Would be replicated by matching T, with A, G with C – A-T-C-G-G-C-A
5
F. Steps of DNA Replication 1.First, an enzyme “unzips” the double helix structure 2.Then, complementary nucleotides are attached like puzzle pieces.
6
3.The unzipping and matching continues until the entire strand is done. 4.The original DNA now has a complimentary strand. 5.The result is two DNA molecules which are identical to the original.

8
G. Enzymes 1.Helicase – unzips the DNA strand 2.Primase – starts replication strand 3.Polymerase – brings complementary bases to join with new strand
9
H. Genes 1.Genes are sections of DNA that code for proteins 2.The order of the nucleotides in the gene is what determines the protein
10
H. DNA to Protein 1.Proteins are made up of many amino acids 2.Remember DNA codes for proteins!
