3 Who is Jon Krakauer? Climbing Career:
After he graduated from Hampshire, he spent time climbing mountains across North America. After a few years, he moved on to climb mountains in Asia, South America, and Antarctica. Climbed Mount Everest in 1996 with Rob Halls Group. Born April 12, 1954 in Brookline, MA. Background: -Graduated from Corvellis High School 1972. -Graduated from Hampshire College in 1976. - 8 years old when he did his first major climb. -Willi Unsoeld was his childhood hero.

Into Thin Air was released in 1997 and was an expansion of his article in Outside Magazine. This book was based on his journey to the top of Everest. Eiger Dreams released in 1990. Iceland was also released in 1990. Into the Wild was released in 1996, and was made into a movie in This book spent two years as a New York Times Best Seller. Under the Banner of Heaven was released in 2003, it was his Third non-fiction bestseller. Where Men Win Glory: The Odyssey of Pat Tillman was released in This book is about the former NFL player who died serving our country in Afghanistan. Three Cups of Deceit is his most recent book, released in 2011.

Regarded as elite mountaineers and experts in their local terrain. They were immeasurably valuable to early explorers of the Himalayan region Served as guides.

26 Who is Tenzing Norgay?

27 Brief Background Established May 29th, 1914.
Tenzing was a Sherpa, from Khumbu, Nepal. Norgay’s life revolved around climbing, and all 13 of his brothers and sisters were Sherpa’s as well. Tenzing married 3 different times, and had 7 children.. .

28 Climbing Accomplishments
At age 19, Norgay had set out to make history. Partnered up Edmund Hillary in 1952. Together they trained to conquer the Mt. Everest. On May 29th, 1953 Norgay and Hillary reached the summit of Mt. Everest (2nd man to reach peak, behind Hillary). He continued to climb, then died on May 9th, 1986.
