1 WelcomeWelcome We are so excited to have your children in our class this year! With your support, we will have an awesome year! Now here’s a little info about your child’s teachers!

2 Curriculum Multi level and Integrated Learning Daily Five for Language Arts Guided Reading-Our goal is for students to be reading by the end of the year. Writer’s Workshop Hands on Materials in all Subjects

3 Morning Schedule 7:50 - 8:30 – Enrichment Time 8:20 – 10:00 – ELA 10:00 – 10:45 – Specials 10:45 – 11:30 – ELA

4 Afternoon Schedule 11:30 – 12:00 – Lunch 12:00 – 12:30 – Recess 12:30 – 2:00 – Math 2:00 – 3:00 – Science/Social Studies 3:00 – Prepare for Dismissal

5 Specials Schedules Mon./Thurs./Fri. – P.E. Tues./Wed. – Music Wed. – Art 9:15-10:00 (every other week – we are team B) Fri. – Library -8:30

6 Homework You will receive a Weekly Newsletter that will list the homework for the week. Your child will complete homework in their Homework Spiral. Complete the home work nightly and read every night with your child from their home readers, library books, and/or books from home! When having your child turn in homework please place math papers inside the homework journal.

7 Grading Guidelines E+ - performing above grade level and has advanced application of knowledge and skills E - performing above grade level and has mastered application of knowledge and skills S+ - performing on grade level and is applying knowledge and skills at expected rate S - performing on grade level and developing knowledge and skills at an acceptable rate N - performing slightly below grade level and needs to improve or develop in applying knowledge and skills U - performing below grade level and shows little or no progress in applying knowledge and skills Content Areas: Reading, Language/Composition, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. Grades are based on the average of 4 minor grades and 2 major grades per subject. Students receive grades for Technology Application and Theater Arts from the classroom teacher.

8 Classroom Discipline Discipline Board with Clips Rewards and Consequences Behavior Folder – Very important to bring back each day! You will be able to see your child’s behavior daily – except for Friday’s ( we use this day to stuff homework inside for the following Monday). Refer to the key at the bottom of the page for behavior indicators.

9 Behavior Folder This will go home every day (except Friday’s). It will be a record of your child’s daily behavior. Please initial each day so that we know you are aware of the day your child have. Here is an example of the behavior sheet.

12 Star of the Week

13 Letter Expert Your child will have the opportunity to be our letter expert for the week! Once we begin alphabet letters, you will get a letter explaining the specifics of what your child needs to do and bring to class! This will be a lot of fun for your child, as well as educational!

14 Believe and Achieve This is a campus wide program that we will participate in class to instill good citizenship, good behavior, and good attendance. We will work towards rewards each week. We are on team Achieve and will wear green on Thursdays. A winner will be announced each Thursday afternoon with a reward for that team! This incentive program will be tied to our school Theme “Dream Team”.

15 MAP Testing A nationwide test Will be assessed on Reading and Math Given 3 times the year Test will determine students’ levels, which will help in creating Stride academy accounts

16 Stride Academy * Funded largely by PTO funds from fundraising, as well as Klein ISD * Provides students with activities that address the TEKS they need to master, individualized by need according to each student’s performance (MAP data) * Please encourage your kids to use this amazing resource at home! All login info will be going home soon.

17 RAZ KIDS Online educational website that reads books to the students Will be starting to use it in class Students have home access to their account Students will read books at their level ONLY

18 Volunteer Opportunities Background check Sign in at the front office Sign up with us if you are interested in being a center helper or a classroom reader! Sign up if you can help us from your home – cutting out laminating, making play dough, sending up extra snack or supplies etc.

19 REMIND An easy and safe way for Mrs. Jones & Mrs. Serres to reach all her parents at one time Communication is ONLY with parents Parents will not be able to respond back
