Scottish Shortbread Cookies By: Ashley Heinzel

Why Shortbread? I decided to make shortbread cookies for the cultural cuisine project because it is a tradition in my family that we make those cookies during the holiday season to express our Scottish heritage.

Ingredients Flour Sugar Salt Softened butter (unsalted) You can purchase this items at any grocery store (I obtained my items from Vons).

Simple Steps: Preheat oven to 350 degrees In a large mixing bowl add: 2 cups of flour ½ cup of sugar 1 teaspoon of salt

Simple Steps: (cont.) Add the softened unsalted butter Mix with mixer until the dough becomes crumbly

Simple Steps: (cont.) Work the dough with hands until the butter is completely mixed into the flour, sugar, and salt mixture.

Simple Steps: (cont.) Then form the dough into small balls, and place them on an ungreased cookie sheet

Simple Steps: (cont.) Press the dough balls down with a fork

Simple Steps: (cont.) Place cookies in the oven for 15 minutes or until the edges turn gold

Final Result Let the cookies cool and ENJOY!

Feedback I liked the shortbread cookies, but they aren’t as good as when my mom makes them. My 3 roommates thought they were delicious! The cookies were too hard or soft, but absolutely perfect.
