2. Warm Up  How can a sedimentary rock change into an igneous rock?

3. Volunteers…  Remember for any rock to change into an igneous rock, it must first return into the mantle to melt. Once it becomes mantle material, it must travel back up to the surface through a volcano. Once on the surface as lava, it cools into igneous rock.  Does everyone understand this process?

20. ROCKS = COOKIE, HOW CAN THAT BE?  The rocks you see around you - the mountains, canyons & riverbeds, are all made of minerals.  A rock is made up of 2 or more minerals. Think of a chocolate chip cookie as a rock. The cookie is made of flour, butter, sugar & chocolate.  The cookie is like a rock and the flour, butter, sugar & chocolate are like minerals.  You need minerals to make rocks, but you don't need rocks to make minerals.  All rocks are made of minerals. The rocks you see arou nd you - the moun tains, cany ons & riverb eds, are all mad e of miner als. A rock is mad e up of 2 or more miner als. Think of a choc olate chip cooki e as a rock. The cooki e is mad e of flour, butte r, sugar & choc olate. The cooki e is like a rock and the flour, butte r, sugar & choc olate are like miner als. You need miner als to mak e rocks, but you don't need rocks to mak e miner als. All rocks are mad e of miner als.
