3 Variables Variables are different things that effect the outcome of an equation. We can think of building a sentence like a math problem. Subject (noun) + verb + direct object= a complete sentence. 4 What makes a sentence Nouns or Subject Verbs Direct Objects Indirect Objects Punctuation The subject is the center of the sentence. The verb gives the sentence life (action) The object, typically direct, is what the subject and verb are doing

5 Example of Sentence Structure subject + verb + what? or who? = direct object Here are examples of the formula in action: Zippy and Maurice played soccer with a grapefruit pulled from a backyard tree. Zippy, Maurice = subjects; played = verb. Zippy and Maurice played what? Soccer = direct object.

6 Practice 1. Write down 2 nouns 2. Now a verb 3. 2 adjectives 4. Make a sentence using these words. You are not allowed to use a different noun, verb, or adjective. Use what you have.
