Propitiation Romans 3:25-26 Propitiation – ἱ λαστήριον (hilasterion) to appease, reconciliation, atonement – a satisfactory sacrifice offered to COVER one’s sins Cf. The mercy seat (Lev. 16- 17)

Propitiation Heb. 10:1-4- But the blood of animals could NOT permanently remove sins! Something better was needed – the blood of Jesus (Rom. 3:24-25)

Justification … something was needed that was appropriate God CANNOT be associated with sin ( 1 John 1:5 ) The blood of Jesus provides justification - Rom. 3:24, 25

Redemption Eph. 1:7, Col. 1:14 Redemption - ἀ πολύτρωσις, apolytrosis to release or set free, a pay cf. the price to free a slave

Redemption The cost of sin is high cf. Rom. 7:14, … Heb. 9:12, 15 Jesus paid the price that the Old Law could not accomplish

Nearness to God Eph. 2:13 EVERYONE has been brought near by His blood Isa. 59:2 – sin separates us WE can be forgiven, no matter what we have done ( cf. 1 Tim. 1:15 )

Makes Peace Col. 1:20 Enmity means to be as an enemy of, opposed to one Sin puts us at enmity against God Rom. 8:7, Jas. 4:4 But the blood of Jesus makes peace with God.

Sanctification Heb. 13:12 Sanctify - ἁ γιάζω (hagiazo), “to make holy”, to set a part for God Christ was able by His blood to set apart a people for God (among those in Israel)

Sanctification As Christians, we are God’s special people – 2 Tim. 2:21, 1 Pet. 2:9 What a privilege to know we are described this way (cf. Heb. 12:22-24)

Cleanses us as believers 1 John 1:7 - IF we walk in the light, His blood will cleanse us! His blood continues to cleanse us after we obey the gospel (when we repent and confess our sins to Him – Acts 8:22, 2 Cor. 7:10-11, 1 John 1:9 )

Cleanses your conscience Heb. 9:13-14 – cleanse our conscience from dead works Coming in contact with the Blood of Jesus can give us peace within! It can give us TRUE hope!

Truly, His blood is precious What does His blood mean to you?

Are you washed in the blood? ( Rev. 1:5, Acts 22:16 )
