Volume of a Rectangular Prism
How much will I hold?
2
Definitions A rectangular prism has 6 sides —opposite sides are equal and parallel Volume is the amount of space inside a shape, measured in cubic units 7 cm 4 cm 8 cm
3
Three measures in a rectangular prism
Length = 8 cm Width = 4 cm Height = 7 cm Volume is how many cubes will fit into this rectangular prism. 7 cm 4 cm 8 cm
4
Finding the Volume V = l · w · h V = 5 · 4 · 7 V = 140 cm³ l= 5 cm
w = 4 cm h = 7 cm Formula… V = l · w · h V = 5 · 4 · 7 V = 140 cm³
5
Now you try one! V = l · w · h V = 16 · 18 · 15 V = 4,320 m³ of gold
If we could melt all of the gold produced in the last 500 years and put it together into a box, the sides would be 16 m for length, 18 m for width and 15 m high. How much would it hold? V = l · w · h V = 16 · 18 · 15 V = 4,320 m³ of gold
