Adding Integers When adding integers use SADS. If the signs are the same, add the numbers and take the sign of the largest absolute value. If the signs are different, subtract the numbers and use the sign of the number with the largest absolute value. (Cover the signs to find the largest absolute value.) Example: Same sign Example: Same Sign Add Different Signs 3 + 4 = 7 Different sign 3) (-2) + (5) = 3 (-3) + (-4) = -7 Subtract 4) (7) + (-9) = -2

Subtracting Integers When subtracting integers use KCC then SADS.
Keep the sign of the first number Change the minus to plus Change the sign of the second number Then Same sign Add Different sign Subtract

Examples Subtracting Integers
-3 – ) -1 – (-8) = -3 + (-1) = = = 7 2) 5- (-2) 4) 4-1 = = 3 = 7

Multiplying Integers If the signs are the same your answer will be POSITIVE! If the signs are different your answer will be NEGATIVE! Examples: Examples: 3 ·3 = 9 3) 3 · (-3) = -9 (-3) · (-3) = 9 4) (-3) · (3) = -9

Dividing Integers Examples: Examples: 25 ÷ 5= 5 3) -25 ÷ 5 = -5
If the signs are the same your answer will be POSITIVE! If the signs are different your answer will be NEGATIVE! Examples: Examples: 25 ÷ 5= 5 3) -25 ÷ 5 = -5 (-25) ÷ (-5) = 5 4) 25 ÷ (-5) = -5
