Week 4 Writing activities COMPLETED IN CLASS

Manage it Monday- Sept 14th List 6-9 traits that show maturity in a person who is 12-13 years old. What does it mean to become responsible?

Talk about it Tuesday- Sept 15th Create a T-chart listing the evidence (with page number) for when Brady is both responsible and irresponsible. In class we will discuss in a “Fishbowl” format. + Responsible-Irresponsible

Write to Learn Wednesday- Sept 16th For time management- you’re allowed to just complete bullets 2 and 6* today! Review and revise the assessment from Wednesday Sept 9 th- You can use your t-charts from yesterday and your notes from your notebooks to help you find page numbers… You might want to start with a brainstorm Write a paragraph on the back of the assessment using the “evidence sandwich” format to argue whether or not you think Brady is at fault for Ben’s death. (4-6 sentences with page numbers). You will start with your claim- (Do you believe Brady is or isn’t responsible for Ben’s death?) Use 2-3 details from the story with in-text citations to support your claim. Finish with a creative rewrite of your claim statement- (Be more articulate than “And that’s why I think he’s innocent”! )

Thirsty Thursday- Sept 17th Only complete bullets 2 and 6* Learn what attorneys’ roles are in a trial investigation- A prosecuting attorney focuses on proving that the person charged with a crime is guilty by gathering evidence about everyone else who is involved and demonstrating that the accused is responsible for the crime. A defense attorney focuses on gathering evidence about everyone who is involved so that they can prove that the accused ISN’T guilty. Motive- the reason someone makes a choice or the reason they behave the way they do.

Fuse it Friday Only complete bullets 2 and 6* Students will begin locating evidence to build their case to either defend or prosecute one of the boys in the story. (Ms. Hammond assigned the groups and will tell the students who they are defending or prosecuting).
