3 www.vacet.org VACET Motivation, ctd. Why have a Visualization and Analytics Center? –To coordinate efforts of DOE’s leading visualization research and development programs. –To leverage technologies from other SciDAC Centers – data management, mathematics – as part of a broader program (SciDAC). –Visualization is the centerpiece of modern scientific data understanding. –To produce production-quality visualization and analytics software infrastructure capable of addressing petascale data understanding challenges. 4 www.vacet.org VACET Mission Statement Meet the Data Understanding Challenge –Adapt, extend, create when necessary, and deploy visualization and data understanding technology for SciDAC2 science stakeholders. Production-Quality and –Capable Software –Provide production-quality visualization and analytics software infrastructure for use at DOE’s flagship, open computing facilities. 5 www.vacet.org Science Stakeholders Accelerator Modeling, Astrophysics, Climate, Combustion, Fusion.

6 www.vacet.org Relationships with Other Centers Scientific Data Management (SDM Center) –Index/query technology to quickly locate data of interest in large collections. –High performance, parallel I/O. –Visualization technology in scientific workflow management systems. Mathematics (APDEC) –Adaptive mesh refinement data visualization and analysis. –Common science customers.
