LAND AND SEA BREEZES
3
What’s going to heat up faster??? Why???
6
Think about how the air looks above you. Hot Cold LOW PRESSURE HIGH PRESSURE
7
Air pressure is the same because air temperature is the same. You have just created lower air pressure
8
TEMPERATURE: DENSITY: PRESSURE: DIRECTION OF AIR MOVEMENT B A COOLERWARMER HIGHER LOWER HIGHER LOWER AIR GO FROM HIGH TO LOW ( A-B)
9
How, is heat energy being transferred? CONVECTION CURRENTS
10
How does this model simulate why we have land and sea breezes. (Include the terms pressure, temperature, specific heat and density in your answer).
12
Land has a lower specific heat than water. Therefore, the land and the air will heat up faster (temperature increases), making the air less dense. This creates low pressure over land and high pressure over water resulting in a: Sea Breeze
13
Now let us look at a real life example
14
Land HIGH PRESSURE LOW PRESSURE AIR GO?? HIGH TO LOW Water Land is warmer, therefore the air above the land will be warmer (low specific heat) Water is cooler, therefore air above the water will be cooler (high specific heat)
15
Land Land is cooler, therefore the air above the land will be cooler (low specific heat) Water is warmer, therefore air above the water will be warmer (high specific heat) LOW PRESSURE HIGH PRESSURE AIR GO?? HIGH TO LOW Water
