2 2 PLUMPTON VILLAGE ACTION PLAN Welcome Fantastic response 82% record breaking response to original questionnaire 70 (5.5%) of electorate have now signed up to a Team – is this a new record? ….and more people have said they want to help with the SID/Environment Society/Neighbourhood Watch Scheme

3 3 Summary of Process so far Original Steering Committee formed from 12 volunteers in 2006 Post-it note events to help formulate the questionnaire Questionnaire circulated Summer 2007 82% of all households returned the forms – plus primary school children and youth Analysis of statistics and interpretation of results through to March 2008

4 4 Summary of Process so far (continued) Held 3 open events April through to July 2008 Essential part of democratic process to give people chance to comment and possibly consider volunteering Action Plan Book delivered to all households July 2008 OPPORTUNITY NOW FOR EVERYONE TO GET INVOLVED AND MAKE IT HAPPEN

5 5 STEERING COMMITTEE New Committee formed 2 nd September 2008 Some from original Steering Committee plus two new members PETER BAKER MAC GARDINER TOM HAWTHORNE (Chair) CAROLE NICHOLSON (Vice-Chair) KELVIN SPEIRS JONATHAN TAYLOR MICHAEL WARD Tom is also a District Councillor; Carole and Kelvin are also Parish Councillors

6 6 EVOLUTION OF PLAN Formation of Teams Appointment of Team Leaders (or Champions) and Deputies Team Leaders to attend VAP Sub- Committee meetings with the Steering Committee – monthly Steering Committee will meet monthly

7 7 Role of Steering Committee 1.To ensure that the momentum for the project is maintained 2.Be mindful that Plumpton is a rural village and wants to remain so 3.To make sure Plans are implemented in a balanced way and do not conflict with each other 4.To guide Sub-Committee members and Teams 5.To ensure timescales and priorities are maintained 6.Present proposals to the Parish Council

8 8 Role of Steering Committee (continued) 7.To liaise with outside agencies 8.To lead fund-raising initiatives (with help we hope from all Team members!!) 9.To publicise results as they happen – Parish Magazine, Parish Pump, website, etc 10.Develop the next phase of the Plan! IN OTHER WORDS MAKE SURE THE PLAN EVOLVES IN A STREAMLINED AND TIMELY WAY

9 9 KEY MESSAGES FOR TEAMS Stick to Plan – try not to reinvent the wheel Stick to Timescales and Priorities – that way the momentum of the Plan can be maintained Team Leaders will meet with the Steering Committee monthly as the new VAP Sub- Committee

10 10 KEY MESSAGES FOR TEAMS (continued) Proposals will be submitted to the Parish Council on a monthly basis by the Steering Committee Team Leaders will need to be aware of the village profile versus the make-up of their Team (in terms of age, location, length of time in village, etc) Team Leaders may need to consult with relevant Parish Council representative Team Leaders will need to ensure that those residents likely to be affected by proposals have been consulted Teams should not liaise with outside agencies on their own – involve the Steering Committee

12 12 NEXT STEPS Each Team arrange 1 st meeting Fix meeting date tonight – see the ‘First Meeting Co-ordinator’ for your chosen Team During First Meeting a)Find out particular interests of Team members b)Find out skills of each Team member c)Appoint Team Leader and Deputy Team Leaders attend 1 st Sub-Committee meeting on 7 th October 2008 for further briefing Next Steering Committee Meeting on 14 th October Next Parish Council Meeting 21 st October

13 13 FIRST TEAM MEETING CO-ORDINATOR We will give to each co-ordinator: a)List of volunteers to date b)List of new volunteers tonight c)Terms of Reference for Teams d)Copy of Plan for their particular Team e)Copy of Statistical Evidence backing up the Plan for each Team f)Example of Report from Team Leader to Steering Committee PASS THESE PAPERS ON TO TEAM LEADER WHEN APPOINTED
