Bell Quiz
2
Objectives Solve problems involving percents. Write proportion and percent statements.
3
Percent A percent is a ratio that compares a number to 100. For example, 50% is the ratio 50/100. There are three components that form a percent statement. – The whole is the total amount – The percent is a rate that quantifies and amount measured with respect to the whole. – The percentage is a number that represents a percent of the whole. – If two of the components are known, then the third component can be determined.
4
Example 1 Using an Equation to Find a Percentage What number is 25% of 50?
5
Example 2 Using an Equation to Find a Percentage What number is 125% of 64?
6
Lesson Practice What number is 35% of 70?
7
Lesson Practice What number is 150% of 24?
8
Percent A percent statement can be set up as a proportion. One ratio compares the part of a quanity to the whole quantity. The other ratio is the percent rate written in the form of a ratio.
9
Percent For example 10% of 50 is 5 can be written as proportion.
10
Example 3 Using a Proportion What number is 125% of 48?
11
Example 4 Using a Proportion 15 is what percent of 45?
12
Lesson Practice Using a proportion, find 315% of 21
13
Lesson Practice 59.5 is what percent of 17?
