Interactive Notebooks Interactive notebooks are “diaries” of what you are doing in social studies. Notebooks will contain your daily objectives, warm-ups, class notes and activities, some homework. This notebook will travel with you from home to school. Notebooks will be graded periodically, so keep up with table of contents. Three Subject Spiral Notebook.

Writer’s Notebook This notebook will stay in class. In this notebook you will write entries relating to the study of Document Based Writing (DBQs). This type of writing asks you to take a position on a topic and to use primary sources to support your position. Composition Notebook.

Grades HW= 10% Classwork= 45% Quizzes/Tests= 45%

Absences YOU are responsible for making up all work (warm-ups, notes, activities, homework) if you are out for any reason. Use the class website, the bulletin board and class notebook or a friend to get caught up. HOWEVER, all answers to warm-ups, activities, and homework should be your original work.

Homework Homework is assigned on a daily basis and is due the day it is due. It is worth 10% of your grade. When I call for homework it will be collected as a whole class and placed in the basket designated for your class. Your weekly homework assignment will start next week and be a reading that extends what we are doing in class and has you reflect on it. This is a written assignment to be turned in to me in class. No email submissions. Academics

RULES R-emain seated and on task at all times. Groups are assigned, seats are not, but choose your neighbor wisely!

Class Arrangement Seating Charts-You will receive a new seating chart every nine weeks. Sitting with a group is a privilege given freely. However, if it is evident that you cannot successfully sit with a group, I will assign you to one of the non-group seats. You may earn your place, in a group, back if you indicate you can be productive in that type of setting. Do no move any classroom furniture!

1 st Block Only Go to bathroom on the way to your locker/classroom! Go to locker and get all materials for the day. You will not return to locker until 4 th block! Once you come in, you will not leave! Come into classroom, get all materials ready (sharpen pencils) and be at assigned group. Silent Reading time until announcements. You may work on something for a class, but you are not walking around or talking.

Beginning Class As soon as you enter and have pencils sharpened, you are seated and recording the homework in your agenda, and the objective at the top of your next clean notebook page. Then begin the warm-up activity in notebook. Student will describe the three regions of NC and tell how the natural resources affect the state. Example

Tardies You are expected to be in your seats and ready to learn when it is time for class. Walking in the class when the class is due to start makes you tardy.

Therefore, I require a silent, straight, orderly line. You will be complimented by me and other adults in the building as we make our way about the school. You may be surprised to learn how much those compliments mean to you.
