What Are Zebrafish??? ZFresh water fish found in slow streams ZThey eat smaller living organisms ZThey get eaten by bigger fish, small amphibians, mammals, or birds.
3
….cont. ZThose that are inbred usually have a 60-85% survival rate which is some what fair. ZSome common names would be Zebra danis or stripped danio.
5
History Z Bionomial name is Danio Rerio ZOriginally from the Ganges River in East India and Burma and also found in rice patties.
6
….cont. ZEarly studies in zebra fish were limited by the lack of genomic resources. ZThe zebra fish has been a model organism for the last 15 years. ZPart of the Cyprinidea family ZIn 1970, George Streisinger was the first to use zebra fish for a genetic analysis of vertebrate development. ZHe also was the first to clone the zebrafish.

Research on Zebrafish ZZebrafish have particular characteristics that make it very suitable for genetic research on embryo development.Zebrafish have particular characteristics that make it very suitable for genetic research on embryo development. ZThis has led to an explosion of interest in zebrafish research in the last 10 years. This has led to an explosion of interest in zebrafish research in the last 10 years. …..cont. ZGenetics research in Zebrafish has potential to reduce birth defects In humans ZBy injecting a customized "genetic patch" into early stage fish embryos, researchers at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis were able to correct a genetic mutation so the embryos developed normally.
9
….cont. ZThe research could lead to the prevention of up to one-fifth of birth defects in humans caused by genetic mutations

Contributes Annah- Looked up the current research/video. Jasmine- Looked up the history behind the zebrafish/pictures. Michael- Looked up zebrafish in general.
