Today we will learn about 7 provinces that make up the north and south part of the state. We will start in the south Let’s begin... and finish in the north.

Transverse Ranges The Transverse Ranges are a steep east- west trending series of mountain ranges. Description of Province: N S E W

Transverse Ranges Intense folding of the petroleum rich sedimentary rock makes this an important oil producing area.

Transverse Ranges The Transverse Ranges extend to the Pacific Ocean.

Transverse Ranges The Transverse Ranges also include the island group of San Miguel, Santa Rosa, and Santa Cruz islands.

Peninsular Ranges The Peninsular Ranges are a series of northwest trending ranges that are parallel to the San Andreas Fault Zone. Description of Province:

Peninsular Ranges Like the Sierra Nevada, the Peninsular Ranges are composed of granite (once magma) intruded into older metamorphic rocks.
