2 Latino Health Status Santa Clara County, 2011  Latinos account for more than a quarter of the residents in Santa Clara County  More Latino adults in Santa Clara County are overweight or obese compared to the County as a whole  Almost 1 in 10 Latino adults in Santa Clara County are current cigarette smokers  Fewer Latino adolescents report using cigarettes in recent years compared to previous years  Almost 2 in 3 Latinos in Santa Clara County have at most a high school degree  A higher rate of Latinos were infected with Pertussis (whooping cough) in 2010 compared to other racial/ethnic groups in the County  Incidence of TB among Latinos decreased by 46% from 1997 to 2010  Latinos have a lower age-adjusted death rate than the County as a whole  Acculturation may account for better health outcomes among recently arrived Latinos, such as lower obesity rates, than those who have lived in the united states for a longer period
