Increasing Public Awareness You have SAVIN. Now what?

Introduction The number of registered victims is THE most important measure of the effectiveness of your SAVIN system. One tool that every SAVIN agency should have. And it costs only $3.98 per month. Ways to promote SAVIN to groups that are not usually associated with victims’ services.

What Works? Brochures (a must have) Good graphics. Include a box on back for an agency’s logo Brochure Holders (gotta have ‘em) DO NOT include other agencies. Use paper that victims can write on—not the slick stuff. Emphasize: “Do not depend solely on MYSAVIN or any other service for your protection.”

What Works? Throws Remember, you get what you pay for. Get samples FIRST Litter Bags are cheap and useful, especially at conferences. Pens, mugs, refrigerator magnets are great. Samples: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.

What Works? Billboards Shows that your SAVIN system is in the big league. Work closely with sign company. What looks good on a computer screen….. Examples of SAVIN billboards….

Victims Services groups – list on your web site, NOT ON YOUR BROCHURES, and request reciprocity 800-MYSAVIN listing in the phone book MYSAVIN Transfer Line in the jail Reserve MYSAVIN.ORG (go to whois.net to verify availability) For those jails that have an offender listing, consider passing data to your provider’s registration site. Add SAVIN brochure to Water bills

What Works? What do Bail Bonding Companies, Social Services Agencies and Detectives have in common? Reach out to emergency rooms, battered women’s shelters, churches, immigrant groups Identify your non-Profits in your SAVIN region. Universities have grant training facilities and are usually available during summers and holidays. Law Enforcement Training Academies

What Works? Law Enforcement agencies Victims? Aren’t those witnesses? Cops love SAVIN Great tool for Detectives. Locate outstanding warrants. Data Auditors. PSA’s for Sheriffs, Chiefs and DA’s. Jail Transfer Line

What Works? Victim Services Louisiana DA’s have VACs Louisiana Sheriffs have CVRs Louisiana DOCs have a Victim Services section ALL use the SAVIN Management Tool to do the following: Search for offenders/cases Monitor registrations/notifications Liaison with DAs, Sheriffs and the public

In closing…. Promote, Promote and Promote. Develop allies. Don’t ever visit a site, unless you do a(n) _______________. Don’t forget to identify who does what. MOUs are essential.
