4. HISTORY & GEOGRAPHY The Creeks lived in Alabama and Georgia. They also lived in hills, valleys, marshes, swamps, mountains and forests. 6. HISTORY & GEOGRAPHY MAIN MENU The first people to make contact with the Creek was a Spanish army. The leader’s name was Hernando De Soto in 1539. The Creek received their name from them. The Creek warriors were known as the red sticks because they were painted red. The Spanish army burned Creek villages and enslaved thousands of Creeks too.

8. DRESS The Creek wore clothes made out of deerskin, animal fur and plant fibers. The Creek men wore deerskin breechcloths, sashes, moccasins and fur coats in the winter. The women wore deerskin dresses, skirts, sashes, moccasins and fur coats in the winter. All the Creek children no clothes until they where 12 or 13. 9. FOOD The Creek hunted with bows, arrows and blow guns. The Creek hunted, fished, farmed and gatherd stuff. The Creek hunted turkey, deer, alligator, bear, rabbit, squirrel, duck, dove and bob white quill. The Creek fished trout, bass and cat fish. 10. CUSTOMS & RELIGION The Creek men would give a women a gift if he wanted to marry her. The Creek women would accept the gift if she wanted to marry the man. If a child was born he/she would live with the mother. The Creek villages were protected by a palisade. (fence of wooden stakes) The Creek had a micco that led each town. 11. INTERESTING FACTS The Creek games were just as important as farming, hunting and fishing. The Creek tattooed themselves from head to toe. The tattoos symbolized how important they were.
