What is the pre-renovation education rule? A Michigan law Requires renovators to educate owners and occupants

When does pre-renovation apply? When a painted surface will be disturbed Target housing and child occupied facilities Renovation and interim control activities

What does pre-renovation require me to do? Distribute a lead pamphlet to owners and occupants prior to work Distribute notices for common areas Obtain confirmation documents Retain records for 3 years

What is considered a (painted surface)? Paint Varnish Shellac Stain Wall paper Any other coating When in doubt hand it out! When in doubt hand it out! HUD Guidelines Page 7-iv Paragraph #9

What are the exceptions ? Lead abatement If the renovation disturbs: a. Less than 10% of an interior painted surface for a small component b. Less than 2 square feet of painted surfaces per room c. Less than 20 square feet of painted surfaces on a building exterior

The portion of a renovation that is designated as lead abatement, but not the entire renovation Commercial properties except those which have child occupied facilities Emergency renovations Zero-bedroom dwellings like studio apartments, dormitories, etc. unless children under 6 years old resides there
