1 STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS ON UTILIZING THIS FINANCIAL LITERACY TOOL Navigating Financial Avenue Created by Academic Advising Services of Northwestern State University of Louisiana September 2015

2 What is Financial Avenue? Financial Avenue is an online learning environment that empowers students and their families for a lifetime of success. It emphasizes the role of financial literacy education and default prevention services in achieving that goal.

3 Getting Started Go to: https://www.financialavenue.org/ Click: “Login”

4 Getting Started On the right side of the screen, you will see the “Don’t have an account?” section. Please click: “Sign up now!”

5 NSU’s Access Code Enter the access code for NSU: mh6y6d Then Click: “Sign Up” mh6y6d

6 Entering Your Personal Information Enter the required information. Make sure to use your NSU e-mail address. Click: “Create my new account”

7 This screens appears when you have completed all information correctly. Now, just Click: “Continue”

8 Now you will enter your Username and Password you created during the set up process. Then click: “Log In”

9 You will see the list of seven COURSES on the left of the screen. You are required to complete two courses. Please select the two courses of the greatest interest to you.

10 Each COURSE has several sections. There is a Pre-Assessment Quiz for each course, as well as a Quiz at the end of each section. You are required to complete each section and you will be able to see your progress, as you go. All sections require the student to be a part of the process – so please make sure you watch the videos and click through the slides. Course Content Progress

11 Once you have completed all sections of the Course, you will receive an Action Items or Action Plan outline (in the Summary section). Please Click the Download Action Items button at the bottom of the Action Items/Plan. You will need to save the downloaded Action Plan as a PDF file to a save location to retrieve in the next step. 12 The Final Step The final step is submitting the Action Items/Plan. Please remember, you must complete TWO courses. After completing the courses, you will need to submit the Plans to your instructor. You will do this by uploading the PDF files, for both courses, to the folder your instructor has in your University Studies 1000 Moodle Shell. Click here to access folder and upload files.

13 Now what??? Please remember to use the Action Items/Plan you received after the courses you selected. The documents are wonderful tools to help you navigate finances and financial aid – now and in the future. You can also return to Financial Avenue to complete additional Courses. Financial Literacy is a key component in your success here at NSU. We hope you find this tool useful, and we hope it helps you handle future financial situtations.
