An author makes the reader or audience uncertain or tense about the outcome of events. Suspense makes the reader ask "What will happen next?"

The problem or challenge that the protagonist of a story faces. Conflict is what drives the story forward, and helps plot progress. Two main kinds of conflict: External: when the protagonist is fighting against something outside of him/her self. Internal: when the protagonist is fighting against his/her self.
