2 Culture TTTThe Egyptians wore very simple clothing. The clothes were made of linen. Linen was made from the flax that grew in the fields. It was woven into cloth. TTTThe rich wore finely woven linen while the workers wore a more durable material. Male peasants wore loincloths. The women wore simple, tight- fitting dresses. BBBBoth men and women wore eye makeup. Eye paint was usually green, made from copper, or black, made from lead or soot. It was believed the makeup had magical and even healing powers. The black lead ore was mixed with fat or cream. This was a good medication. It was so expensive only the wealthy could wear it. Some even believed it would restore poor eyesight. IIIInformation from: http://library.thinkquest.org/CR0210200/ancient_egypt/facts.htm

3 Technology TTTThe Ancient Egyptian calendar is a little different from ours today. There were ten days in a week, three weeks in a month, four months in a season, three seasons in a year, and five holy days. That adds up to a 365-day year. The Egyptians were the first people to come up with the 365-day year. TTTThe Ancient Egyptians changed from copper tools to bronze tools because bronze tools were better to work with. By 200 BC they changed from bronze tools to iron tools. With these tools, the Ancient Egyptians built great monuments and palaces. They’re the ones who built the Great Pyramids at Giza, and look at that, today they’re still standing. EEEEgyptians clocks were much different from ours as well. There were two types of clocks in Ancient Egypt—a water clock and a sundial. IIIInformation from: http://library.thinkquest.org/J002046F/technology.htm

4 Geography  One of Egypt's greatest sources of water is the great Nile River. The Nile River is very different than other rivers. It goes south to north and it empties in the Mediterranean Sea. The Nile River is about 960 miles long! Every year, it floods and enriches the soils of the land so it's very important.  One desert in Egypt is the Sahara. The Sahara is the biggest desert in all of Egypt. It has rocks, sand, and gravel. It is so big that it is almost the size of the U.S. The Sahara Desert is in the northwest part of Egypt.  Egypt has not only desert but also mountains.  http://library.thinkquest.org/5356/
