Mining waste may contain heavy metals which pose harm to the environment (AFRIM, 2012). The mines discharge the tailings into neighboring creeks; thus, downstream of the mines all streams are polluted to varying degrees (Briones, 1987). Therefore, it is critical to monitor the concentration of heavy metals.
