Kukolich Laboratory: Electronics, Inorganic Synthesis & Scientific Glassblowing Daniel A. Sánchez 04/17/10 NASA Space Grant: University of Arizona Chemistry Department

Project Overview 3 Projects Project #1 Part 1: Motor Circuit Part 2: Pulse Box Project #2- Synthesis of Trochrocene Project #3 Scientific Glassblowing

Microwave Spectroscopy Microwave Spectroscopy studies the structure of organic and inorganic compounds. Why is this important? Determines bond lengths and angles and model interactions.

Studied Complexes

Pulsed-Beam Fourier Transform Microwave Spectrometer Microwave Cavity Diffusion Pump 10 -6 Torr Fore pump

t=0 General Valve SCR Molecules in Ne +300V Pico Digital Oscilloscope HP 8673 Microwave Generator Pulse Sequence

Project #1: Part 1: Motor Control Circuit Objective –To control a DC motor at 12V/1Amp that will run at variable speeds, manually, or by computer. –Control of mirror movement –Using the NAND,555, One Shot, and Inverter

Final Design of Control Circuit When manual is in use computer is locked out and vice versa

Project #1: Part 1: Success! Project #1 Part 1 was a success and currently moves mirrors within the new spectrometer

Project #1: Part 2: Pulse Box construction for Spectrometer #3 Objective –To build a pulse box that could generate a sequences of pulses.
