What we’ve done so far… A fluid dynamics model to calculate leakage A method to set pass/fail limits for roughness A Quality Control machine to recommend A sales representative contact at Dymek A test plan Polishing materials ordered http://www.veeco.com/products/Metrology_and_Instr umentation/Optical_Profilers/Wyko_NT9300/

After testing Measuring Roughness and Roundness at the NHMFL. Set parameters and tolerances for the surface profiler. Incorporate a fluid dynamic model for roundness measurements.

6
Fluid Dynamic Models Capillary Seal Models flow around two concentric cylinders. Perfect model for the measurements of flow between the plunger and plunger body.
7
Fluid Dynamic Models Spherical Step Bearing Measures thin film flow around a spherical check valve Used to measure the flow rate between the check ball and the plunger.

What we still need Carry out polishing tests at GT Tech and machine shop Analyze samples at NHMFL Fluid dynamic model for roundness Combined model that calculates leakage given roughness and roundness
10
Last minute ideas Change from stainless steel ball bearings to high temperature rubber Viton™ Rubber will allow some deformation to form to the surface of the seat Could potentially eliminate the need for polishing Image from www.smallpartsinc.com
