Making inferences basically is figuring out something that wasn’t completely explained in the story! You use clues from the story to make a GOOD GUESS about what is happening and what will happen.

You are using what you read AND what you already know to put the pieces together.

Thinking about… Clues from the text What I already know. How a character handles change and conflict How a character feels What a character says The character’s actions My own experiences

There are four bags. Each bag has items in it. Looking at the items in the bag, what do the clues tell you about where the person may be going? Quietly, without BLURTING, write down what you believe the person will be doing after school today. Try to get the full picture. Think about why each item is needed. Tell as much information as LOGICALLY POSSIBLE. (Don’t make up what you can’t figure out!)
