ENERGY IN THE ECOSYSTEMS By Alex Gregory
3
Oxygen and CO 2 Animals and people breathe in oxygen and exhale, or let out, carbon dioxide. Plants take in carbon dioxide and exhale oxygen. This process repeats it’s self.
4
Herbivores Herbivores eat plants only. Herbivores have flat teeth. Herbivores are the 3 rd in the food chain.
5
Omnivores Omnivores eat plants and meat Omnivores have flat and sharp teeth. Omnivores are consumers in the food chain. People are omnivores
6
Carnivores Carnivores are meat eaters. They have sharp teeth. They are consumers on the food chain. They are usually at near the end of the food chain.
7
Decomposers Decomposers include mushrooms, fungus, worms, and bacteria. They are at the end of the food chain. They decompose dead things to start the food chain over again.
8
Producers Producers are plants that get energy from the sun. Producers use water, sunlight, carbon dioxide to make sugar (or glucose). This is called photosynthesis. Chlorophyll is the chemical that makes plants green.
9
Consumers Consumers are herbivores, omnivores, and carnivores. Consumers get their energy from the things they eat. Consumers are all animals.
10
Food Webs In the food web there are predators, prey, and both. There are many organisms in a food web. If the population of the organisms in the food web increase or decrease the delicate balance could be hurt or destroyed.
