2. Patterns Chapter 7 It is important to practice writing vivid description. It will help you even when you are not writing description. Academic writing requires specific examples and details. A good way to practice that is to write descriptive essays.

3. Look at p. 149 Review the section, “Planning a Descriptive Essay. First decide what you will describe. Make sure to be VERY specific. Then, write down descriptive details. Again, BE SPECIFIC!

4. SPECIAL NOTE Review USING TRANSITION (also p. 149). Transitions are extremely important to any good essay. Refer back to p. 43 for a more complete discussion.

5. Review the sample essays Look at the details of the student essay on p. 153. Is it effective? Review the essay on p. 156. What about these details? Which do you like better?
