3 BACKROUND INFORMATION
Winston Watt is an Olympic athlete that participated for the Jamaican Bobsled Team in 1994, 1998, 2002 At 47 years old, 6 feet tall, 235 pounds, Winston is in shape and training hard for the Sochi Olympics He has contributed a large portion of funds for the Jamaican Bobsled Program by spending countless hours raising money After a failed marriage, Winston became a US citizen and has worked in the natural gas and oil fields, before being laid off and working in industrial management and safety Winston was born on February 8th, 1967 Winston was born in May Pen, Clarendon, Jamaica

4 ACCOMPLISHMENTS Finished 14th in the 1994 Olympics (beating USA, France, Russia, Italy, Canada, and sadly Australia) in the four man bobsled Finished 21st in the four man and 29th in the two man in 1998 Finished 28th in the two man in 2002 Led the Jamaican Bobsled Team to gold in two man and silver in four man in the 2000 World Push Championships Led the Jamaican Bobsled Team to gold in two man and 4th in four man in the 2001 World Push Championships

5 WHAT Winston Watt has had a very successful past career in bobsledding for Jamaica Winston came out of retirement in 2010 to train for the 2014 Olympics Winston is a very inspirational icon for Jamaica and all bobsledders around the world

6 WHEN A timeline of Winston Watt’s bobsled career
1993: Winston joined the Jamaican Bobsled Program : Winston participated in the Olympics and various bobsled competitions that shaped his career as an athlete : After trying very hard to raise money and qualify for the Olympics but not reaching the requirements, Winston decide to retire to take care of his family 2010: Winston can’t bear watching the Olympics without a Jamaican bobsled team and comes out of retirement to help shape a new Jamaican bobsled team Present: Winston is training hard and has his eyes set on the Sochi Olympics making two teams: 1) a two man bobsled team, and 2) a four man bobsled team Present: The two man Jamaican Bobsled Team is just participating in the qualification process for the 2014 Olympics but could still possibly not qualify if knocked down in the standings. It is doubtful that the four man team will qualify at this point.

7 WHERE Winston is planning on going to the Olympics being held in Sochi, Russia The Jamaican Bobsled Team is currently training at Park City, Utah, where the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics took place The Jamaican Bobsled Team has returned to Jamaica to train in physical activities such as running and weight lifting Over the lifetime of Winston’s career he has travelled to: 1994 Lillehammer, Norway; 1998 Nagano, Japan; and 2002 Salt Lake City, USA

8 WHY Winston came out of retirement to show that Jamaica can do anything and to inspire the people of Jamaica The movie ‘Cool Runnings’ was a great movie that made me want to research Jamaica and its cold winter sports After being to Jamaica on vacation, I felt like I had a connection

10 OTHER FACTS On a good day, Winston can bench press 480 Ibs
In 1988, Jamaica wasn't the only Caribbean team competing and actually lost to multiple Caribbean teams such as: the U.S. Virgin Islands and Netherlands Antilles The idea of a Jamaican Bobsled Team came from two Americans with no Jamaican background. The coach was also American Arriving in Calgary for the competition, the first Jamaican Bobsled Team actually didn't have a sled. They got lucky and found one in an old storage compartment at the track
