1 Title: Why is the 2010 World Cup important to Cape Town? Lesson Objectives: All – Explore how the world cup will impact on Cape Town. Most – Be able to select relevant information. Some – Be able to make links between reasons.

2 Starter: 1.Which photo do you find most interesting/ relevant? 2.Explain Why?

3 What do all of these detectives have in common? What makes them so good at their job? They all try to solve a mystery by using clues and evidence: they come up with a possible theory and try to prove it using the evidence.

4 Task: You will be working in pairs. You have to use the clues to answer the question ‘Why is the World Cup important to Cape Town?’ There are some Red Herrings in the clues. How did you reach your decision? What process did you go through? Can you link any reasons together?

5 Plenary: Read through the top 10 advertising slogans. Think of an advertising slogan for the 2010 South Africa World Cup. 1. Good things come to those who wait - Guinness 2.
