What is an Improper Fraction?
An Improper fraction has a top (numerator) number larger than (or equal to) the bottom (denominator) number, Its “Top Heavy” Examples:

What is a Mixed Fraction?
A Mixed Fraction is a whole number and a proper fraction combined, such as 1 3/4.

How you Change an Improper Fraction to a Mixed Fraction
First figure out if its an improper fraction by looking to see if the top number is bigger than the bottom number. 8 Yes 3 No

Next you divide the top number by the bottom number
Now that we know 8 is an improper 5 fraction we can divide 8 by goes into 8, 1 time with 3 left over.

We take the remaining 3 and make it into a fraction
We take the remaining 3 and make it into a fraction. The remaining 3 will always go over the original denominator. The number of times the denominator goes into the numerator always goes in front of the remaining fraction such as: 1 3 5
