1 Welcome to Matthew Lodge from the EPSRC! I’m Jon Crowcroft of the Systems Research Group (SRG) The SRG covers a lot of bases: fixed and wireless networks, operating systems, distributed systems, programming languages & runtimes, databases, mobile systems… ~10 faculty / senior researchers + ~30 graduate students We have a number of topics scheduled for today, primarily in the space of multi-core, healthcare, and mobile and social systems and modelling. First, however, let me give you a brief overview of other work done within the SRG…

2 Systems Research Group Hardware INTERNET Energy efficient networking&datacenters C-Aware Carbon-awareness for consumers FRESNEL/ IKC Large-scale Federated Sensor Networks applications CHERI/MRC/NetFPGA Rackscale Interconnects

3 Systems Research Group Hardware Most widely deployed x86 hypervisor Successful tech transition to industry Cloud: Amazon EC2, Rackspace Product: Citrix XenServer, Oracle Linux Research efforts: XenSE: trusted computing XenClient: client-side virtualisation Hypervisors
