CIPD/Upgrading3 ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR CHARTERED MEMBER Organisational level Is a member of a personnel/ training department/team. May have specific managerial responsibilities within personnel or training and/or for a specific part of the business. Range/depth of responsibilities Responsible for developing and implementing specific personnel and/or training policies within a generalist personnel and development role or in a specific area. Impact/influence Significant input into personnel and/or training policies. Implements policies that have a short-term impact. Responsible for making decisions or guiding other managers in the execution of personnel and development policies. Management Manages a small team of personnel or training professionals/support employees or has functional leadership or consultancy role. Communications and Relationships Has direct contact with line managers and peers in other companies.

CIPD/Upgrading4 ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR CHARTERED FELLOW Organisational level Is a board/executive team member with regular access to top team. Range/depth of responsibilities Is responsible for substantial personnel or training function or for major personnel discipline. Formulates strategy. Chairs/leads task forces or working groups on key personnel issues. Impact/influence Influences business policy and goals. Key negotiator/custodian. Long-term impact. Management Manages large team of professional personnel or training practitioners or is a high-level persnnel specialist – perhaps the only one. Communications and Relationships Has direct contact at board level and relationships and with top team members. Also with peers in other companies and line managers.

CIPD/Upgrading5 What do I need for upgrading? You will need An up-to-date CV Evidence of the seniority level of job(s) you have held (job descriptions and organisation charts can be helpful – but are not essential) A completed Upgrading Application Form which includes and explanation of how you meet the criteria for the level to which you want to upgrade to.

What do I need for upgrading? continued/... Sponsor’s statement CPD: evidence of reflections on learning in the past 12 months and a development plan for the next 12 months. (This can be included in the Upgrading Application form or attached separately.). Payment for the upgrading fee CIPD/Upgrading6

CPD should demonstrate: -update in knowledge/skills (past 12 months) -added value professionally -Outcomes from learning experienced Content (not presentation) Learning objectives and outcomes should be: -Clear -Serve organisation (or client) need -Individual goals / aspirations Investment of time & learning – a way of life (not an optional extra)

Action Plan Develop an action plan Set date for completing and submitting Upgrading Application Draft CPD (identify key learning points / plan learning for next 12 months) Locate and update CV Develop additional information to support CV and application to upgrade Develop CPD Record and Plan (or complete ‘new style’ CPD in application form) CIPD/Upgrading10

Identify Sponsor Polish application / CV and CPD Pull all your paperwork together Phone a friend / mentor to arrange for them to review the completed application Make any final adjustments Sign completed Upgrading form Obtain Sponsor’s comments and signature Complete payments box Post application to CIPD HQ or attend local panel (check with your branch) CIPD/Upgrading11
