Dunes in the Sahara Desert This picture has good use of lines, a simple background, and it is balanced. Lines in this picture would be the edge of the sand dune along the skyline and the peak of the dune. The sky and how it is plain blue is what makes it simple. The way that the dune is shaped is what makes is balanced.

Cat on Roof This picture has lots of lines and is simple. The lines are the edges of the tiles on the roof. They all are pointing the same direction (from the top left to the bottom right). The simplicity comes from the brown roof. It does have different shades of brown making the picture better to look at. The point of interest is the cat in the lower right-hand corner. Because the cat is in the bottom right-hand corner of the photo, the picture follows the rule of thirds.
4
Tulip Field This photo has a really good use of lines. The tulips are in very neat long rows drawing the eye towards the vanishing point in the distance. Even the angle of the trees and the yellow tulips are all being directed to the same point. The sky is a simple light blue with no clouds that might distract anyone. There are no mergers. The picture is also balanced. The red is even on both sides and the sky is the same color throughout the entire scene.
5
Mountain Lake This picture is simplistic because of the calm lake and the even sky. Also because the sky has no clouds. It’s also being framed by the trees in the foreground. Because they are on the sides and not in the main part of the picture itself, it makes them give a frame to the lake and the mountains. The mountains and the lake are evenly balanced on each side of the photo.

Two Kittens on a Fence The photo is balanced because of the two kittens. The wooden posts draw your eye towards the kittens. The edges of the posts would be lines in the photo. Because the background is fuzzy is doesn’t distract the eye, making the picture simplistic.
