7 The Home Front In a war there is the battle front where soldiers fight. The home front are the civilians at home who are helping the war effort. They work in factories that make weapons. They grow food for the troops. The support the war effort by buying war bonds.

8 New Opportunities Sometimes war provides new opportunities for people. During WW 1 many women took jobs outside the home to fill in for men who were in Europe fighting. African Americans traveled north during the Great Migration, to work in the war industries.
