The 2012 Summer Olympics known as London 2012 was a major international multi-sport event. More than 10000 athletes from 204 National Olympic committees participated.

The opening ceremony The opening ceremony was held on 27 July and called "Isles of Wonder". The Games were officially opened by Queen Elizabeth, accompanied by Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. It was the second Games the Queen had opened personally, the first being in 1976 in Montreal.

Olympic Champions Ryan Lokhte the USA, swimming Serena Williams the USA, tennis Lin Dan, the Chinees champion in badminton The United States finished at the top of the table winning 46 gold medals and winning 104 medals overall. China finished second with 38 gold medals and 88 medals overall. Hosts Great Britain came in third place winning 29 gold medals and 65 medals overall.

Russia at 2012 Summer Olimpics 436 athletes, 208 men and 228 women, competed in 24 sports. Russia left London with a total of 82 medals (24 gold, 26 silver, and 32 bronze), finishing fourth in the overall medal standings, though 16 more than Great Britain.

Olga Zabelinskaya became the first Russian female cyclist to win two Olympic medals in road events

Anastasiya Davidova, the famous Russian champion, won 5 gold medals

Russia's team-based athletes also proved successful at these games, as the men's volleyball and basketball teams won gold and bronze medals, respectively.

We are proud that it was David Ayrapetyan, who became one of the the bronze champions in boxing from Russia. He lives in Pyatirorsk and studied at our school №3.

Olympic athlets assembled in the shape of the the Union Flag Cabs carring the Spice Girls The 2012 Summer Olympics were officially closed by Jacques Rogge, who called London's games "happy and glorious." The closing ceremony is known as a Symphony of British Music.
