2 About Rabindranath Tagore: *Born on May 7, 1861, Jorasanko, Calcutta. *Died on August 7, 1941, Jorasanko, Calcutta. *Studied in University of Calcutta & University College London. *Language- Bengali, English *Occupation- Poet, short-story writer, novelist, essayist & painter. *Won Nobel Prize in Literature in the year 1913.

3 Tagore despised rote classroom schooling. In 1901 Tagore moved to Santiniketan and found an ashram with a marble-floored prayer hall—The Mandir—an experimental school, groves of trees, gardens, a library.Santiniketan ashramMandir Tagore, visiting Santa Barbara in 1917, conceived a new type of university: he sought to "make Santiniketan the connecting thread between India and the world and a world centre for the study of humanity somewhere beyond the limits of nation and geography. He named the school Visva-Bharati.

7  Rabindranath Tagore won Nobel Prize in Literature in 1913 and Rabindranath was the first Indian to won Nobel Prize.  In 1930 the Paintings of Rabindranath Tagore was exhibited in Paris and London.  Rabindranath Tagore was the co-founder of Dartington Hall School in Japan.  Indian Postage Department showed their tribute to Rabindranath Thakur on 7th May 1961 when a Stamp released in the name of Rabindranath Tagore
