Technology and Design Key Stage 3 To design and model a Mobile Phone Holder Task: II Developing ideas through modelling RA Moffatt. AAO

Learning Intentions: WALT: We are learning to - 1.use card and fixings to design and develop a 3D model; 2.use front, side and isometric views as a starting point for sketching your design ideas; 3. develop and use criteria to assess your work. How would we know that we have been successful?

Learning Intentions: Card Modelling WALT: We are learning to: – 1.model in card - scoring, cutting, folding, interlocking, pivot, hinge joining and gluing; 2.measure accurately and work to a scale 1:1; 3.understand what is meant by proportion; 4.mark out a profile;

Learning Intentions: Card Modelling WALT: We are learning to: – 5. use templates; 6. understand the process of line bending using card/acrylic sheet; 7. relate the construction techniques in card to a resistant material / acrylic plastic.

Learning Intentions: WALT: We are learning to: - 8. draw light construction lines; 9. draw parallel lines; 10. draw lines to scale 1:1; 11. use isometric template to sketch in pictorial 12. draw two views of a simple working drawing; 13. add three important dimensions to a working drawing;

Success Criteria: WILF: What I’m looking for 1.An imaginative yet simplistic design; 2.A card model - accurately cut out / neatly folded; 3.A model that supports your mobile phone – a design that works; 4.Good 2D / 3D sketches – showing clarity, detail of how the idea works, parallel lines, in proportion etc; 5.Some understanding of pictorial drawing; 6. A model / design that can be made using the given resistant material;

Success Criteria: WILF: What I’m looking for 1.An imaginative yet simplistic design; A start may be made by Looking at :- Man, women, or animal profiles

Mobile Phone Holder Success Criteria / Outcomes MarksPupil’s Mark Teacher’s Mark Design / Modelling Design Opportunity: Phone Holder: Model two idea in card to scale: A card model made to scale that supports the mobile phone / stability; Aesthetically pleasing; Phone fits easily in and out. 3 2 1 Communicating / Modelling Sketch two proposed ideas Good quality 2D sketches showing - clarity and detail: 3D sketches using templates Sketches easily understood - good clear 2D / 3D drawings in proportion; Key Dimensions included; Notes added to help explain your idea. 3 2 1 Manufacturing A manufactured product which demonstrates precision and quality finish. The holder should securely hold the mobile phone. 641641 Teacher Feedback: Total: 12 Agreed Total: 3 – Exceeding Target 2 – On Target 1 – Below Target Pupil’s comments:Pupil’s Name:Class:

Activity Description: Time - approximately 8 x 35min periods; Theory / Workshop demonstrations: The pupils study the process and constraints of accurately filing to an internal radius. Manufacture: To manufacture accurately to a profile / template or pattern and to understand a basic working drawing; Applied Design: to design and manufacture the body of the Mobile Phone Holder.
