I. Diverse Geography A.SUBCONTINENT (massive piece of land that juts out of a continent) B.3 Countries make up the subcontinent: India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh C. India is culturally isolated from the rest of Asia D. The Himalayan mountains keep India secluded in the north

II. 3 climate zones A.Northern Plains 1) 2 rivers a. Indus River: b. Ganges River: 2. The rivers carry melting snow from the mountain to the plains.

B. Deccan Plateau 1. Central India 2. Climate is dry and arid 3. Does not allow for crops to grow

C. Coastal Plains 1. Problems with flooding and tsunamis 2. Seasonal winds (Monsoons) bring rains which allow for the production of agriculture
