What does that mean for my child? Fewer concepts More in-depth More rigorous Mastery learning Level Playing Field
4
The Common Core Standards
The Number System Rational and Irrational Real Expressions and Equations Work with radicals and Integer Exponents Proportional Relationships/Linear Equations Analyze and solve linear equations and Functions Define, evaluate, and compare functions Use functions to model the relationships between quantities
5
Geometry Understand congruence and similarity Understand and apply the Pythagorean Theorem Volume of cylinders, cones, and spheres Statistics and Probability Investigate patterns of association in bivariate data.
6
Develop the following Mathematical Practices
Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them. Reason abstractly and quantitatively. Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others. Model with mathematics. Use appropriate tools strategically. Attend to precision. Look for and make use of structure. Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning.

Homework Yes, they really do have it everyday.
There are a few rare exceptions. When in doubt, check the website. We practice to solidify our skills, determine what we still need to work on, and to develop mastery. Late work will be completed in Saturday School.

What can you do to help your child be successful in math this year?
Encourage them to ask questions if they don’t understand or if they are confused. Monitor homework completion. Touch base with your child frequently to know when they should be studying for quizzes and tests, etc. Let me know immediately if there is any kind of issue or concern.
