Present-Tense Verbs Created by Andrea White 2 nd Grade

The tense of a verb tells when the action takes place. The lady walks the dog The lady walked the dog. The lady will walk the dog.

Present-tense verbs tell about actions that happen now. The boy throws the ball. She brushes her hair. She sees a cat.

Add –s to present tense verbs that tell about one person or thing. Mike jumps the fence. The grass grows fast.

hug (add –s) hugs eat (add –s) eats read (add –s) reads write (add –s) writes clean (add –s) cleans send (add –s) sends

Add –es if the verb ends with s, ch, sh, x, or z Dad watches T.V. The child wishes for a new bike.

Examples: verb: miss (add –es) misses She misses her old friends. verb: mix (add—es) mixes The cook mixes the cake.
