Objective s: Purpose of fee based programs Items to consider in planning fee based programs. Share ideas / exchange ideas

Why have fee based programs? Resource scarce environment –county, state, federal Sustainability Public value –“ authorizers ” (parents, taxpayers, legislators, local government, other educators, etc.) –participants

Perspectives to consider: Evidence of public value Increase participation and support Educator in the community. Role as Coordinator for youth development program. Network with organizations/ agencies for funding.

Estimating fee: What does it cost to implement this activity/program? Market research How is it important? who, what, how much, for what? Program impacts for youth audience Sustainability

Continuation…. What do they get in return for fee paid? What are other cost to you? Transportation Handouts Materials Refreshments Awards, certificate, _________ Location fee? Travel? Insurance? Guest presenter fee? Equipment / tools? Training volunteers? ______________

Properly assess possibilities Cannot endorse a product or products. Participants receive value worth for fee Educational Contributes to programming efforts (IAA) Important to evaluate Accountability – evidence of public value

Remain a significant element for youth development in communities! Identify strengths and focus (where/how you can make major impacts) Stay ready for changes and challenges Foresight Be proactive Close connections to – and dialogue with- constituents. Develop strong advocacy (parents, 4-H members, teachers, volunteers, etc.)

Funding options in addition to fee based programs Sponsors (individual or business) –“Sponsor a Youth” program – Sponsor an event Fund Raising Grants Endowments Subsidized programs

Possible fee based programs Day camps ( project related) - Grooming and Showmanship School (for livestock, horse or dog) - Sewing (could be a series) + accessories + decorating your room + clothing embellishments + clothing construction - Culinary Arts (could be a series) + baking + Power drinks + Microwave cooking + cake decorating + Fun Foods and appetizers - Environmental Camps Santa’s Workshop Teen’s Back-to- School Wardrobe: Planning, purchasing and care of your new wardrobe. Workforce Preparedness Camp Etiquette School Riding School
